Useful Tips:Lafayette recycle bin 200

  • Please place your carts at the curb by 7am on your scheduled service day
  • DO NOT bag your recyclables, just place them directly in the recycle cart with the purple lid
  • Recyclables can be commingled in the recycle cart, there is no need to sort or separate items
  • All items need to be inside recycle cart with the lid closed. Items left outside of cart will not be picked up
  • An extra recycle cart may be ordered at no additional charge by calling the Finance Department

Dirty Dozen:

  • No syringes, needles, or other kind of medical waste
  • No explosive or hazardous materials such as ammunition, motor oil, or solvents
  • No plastic bags
  • No food waste
  • No block foam, packing peanuts, bubble wrap or shrink wrap
  • No shredded paper, instead put in compost bin
  • No scrap metal
  • No Styrofoam
  • No frozen food boxes or ice cream containers
  • No flattened cans

Household Hazardous Materials: 

Lafayette residents can take hazardous household products to the Hazardous Materials Management Facility free of charge with proof of residency.

Acceptable Recyclable Items:

  • Flattened corrugated cardboard
  • Paperboard: cereal boxes, paper towel rolls, etc.
  • Magazines, newspaper, catalogs and junk mail
  • Plastic bottles, tubs, jugs & jars with attached plastic caps on EMPTY plastic screw-tops
  • Large plastic container with attached lids
  • Aluminum & Steel cans, glass bottles & jars, balled aluminum foil

Lafayette offers electronic recycle days every January and September.

Lafayette residents can always take their recyclable materials to the Boulder County Recycling Center, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
