Current Opportunities

  1. Reading Buddies

    Grades 7-12
    Winter/Spring 2022: meets Tuesdays in February
    With other teens, you will meet and get matched up with younger kids to read books, play games, make a difference and have fun! You will commit to a specific meeting day/time during one or more 4-6-week sessions during the school year or for the summer (June-July). Check session dates and additional program info on the Reading Buddies home page; then apply to Teen Team to get started!

  2. Teen Collection Connection (TCC)

    Grades 6-12
    Fall 2021: meets in person monthly September-November 
    Winter: meets in person monthly January-April
    Do you love to read and discuss favorite books, movies, and music? Join TCC and meet monthly with other teens to contribute short book reviews that will be featured on the Library's blog and on the shelves next to the books, and to help select items to add to the teen collection. Apply 

  3. Maker Buddies

    Grades 9-12
    Fall 2021: meets in person on Wednesdays in October
    Winter/Spring 2022: meets in person on Tuesdays in March
    Have fun working with older kids to design and print 3D projects. Apply 

  4. Writing Buddies

    Grades 8-12
    Fall 2021: meets in person, Mondays in November
    Winter/Spring 2022: meets in person, Tuesdays in April
    This is a writing mentoring program for kids in grades 3-5, led by volunteer teens. You will meet with other teens and kids to do writing games, share stories, and have fun! You will commit to a specific meeting day/time during the school year, or sign up for the whole summer session. Apply

  5. Pop-up Storytimes

    Grades 6-12
    September 2021-April 2022: Pop-up Storytimes will occur once a month on Saturdays at locations around Lafayette
    Teens help assist our storytellers with songs, activities, and book giveaways.
     

Other (Seasonal/Occasional)

  1. Circulation Aide 

    Grades 9-12: 2 hours, once per week
    Find out what it’s like to work in a library! Track down customer requests, and lend a hand shelving, straightening and ordering items in our collection. You should be good at alphabetizing and be comfortable using the Dewey Decimal System to sign up for this role.

    Summer Reading 

    Grades 6-12: 2 hours, once or twice per week (during June 1-July 31)
    Give out prizes, and help all age groups sign up and log reading minutes at the Summer Reading table. You may also help with programs and events, shelving, and other tasks. This is a great way for teens who love reading to share their enthusiasm with kids, teens, and adults!

    Additional Opportunities

    Grades 6-12
    Love libraries and want to volunteer, but not sure what to do? You might be able to help with programs, story times, crafts, computer lab support, displays or other tasks. Apply for Teen Team and we will find a volunteer experience that is right for you!
