Lafayette Recreation offers a wide selection of fitness class options to suit every need. Classes are offered at the Bob Burger Recreation Center and at the Senior Center.
Fitness classes tailored to Active Older Adults include SilverSneakers® Stability, Classic, and Yoga. Other classes suggested for Active Older Adults include Water Fitness, Water Yoga, LaBlast Splash, Alignment Yoga, and Thursday Trackers.

SilverSneakers® Classes
SilverSneakers® Stability
If you want to improve your balance and strength, this class is for you! Movements taught in class focus on improving strength and power in the ankle, knee, and hip joints while improving reaction time. This class is suitable for nearly every fitness level.
Classes are held in the Lafayette Senior Center, 103 S. Iowa Avenue

SilverSneakers® Classic
Have fun moving to music performing exercises focused on strengthening muscles and increasing range of movement for daily life activities. For additional resistance, participants can use handheld weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a SilverSneakers ball. Often a chair is used for seated exercises and standing support. Exercises can be modified to accommodate fitness levels.
Classes are held in the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center gym on:
- Mondays | 12:15-1:15pm
- Thursdays | 9:30-10:30am
- Fridays | 8-9am
SilverSneakers® Chair Yoga
Move your body through a series of seated and standing yoga poses with a chair offered for support. This class, suitable for beginners to advanced yogis, will help increase flexibility, balance, and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and relaxation without strain on your joints will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.
Classes are held in the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center gym on:

Seated Stretch
Experience yoga-based postures and stretches from the comfort of a chair. With a chair, there is no need to worry about getting down to or up from the floor. Mindful, meditative, and flexibility exercises will help your recovery, mobility, posture, and energy!
Young at Heart Tai Chi Flow
An aerobic fusion of Tai Chi, Taekwondo, and Chair Yoga. Expect to move gently and flow dynamically for a full mind-body workout.
Classes are held in the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center Fitness Studio
Tuesdays | 11am-noon
Seated Tai Chi
Often described as meditation in motion, seated Tai Chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. It helps older adults get the health and wellness benefits of Tai Chi without the risk of falling. Tai Chi also improves flexibility, immune system, sleep, happiness, sense of self-worth, strength, cardiovascular endurance, and concentration.

La Blast Chair Fitness
LaBlast Chair Fitness is a dance fitness class performed in a chair that combines ballroom dancing with gentle weight training. No partner is needed! Learn the true skill of dance while having fun, all from a seated position. LaBlast® is based on all the dances you see on "Dancing with the Stars"- Disco, Jive, Foxtrot, Waltz, and more. Learn the true skill of dance while blasting away calories to the music of all genres and seriously having a blast!

Flamenco Fitness Class
Unleash your inner flamenco dancer and experience the joy of movement with Mariana Ole's fitness-based Flamenco Classes. Get ready for a delightfully fun workout with the opportunity to learn this vibrant dance form. Wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, and prepare to immerse yourself in the rhythm and grace of flamenco.
