The Lafayette Community Police Academy provides the public, ages 15 and older, with an inside look at law enforcement. The academy will explain and demonstrate many of the department's policies, divisions, and functions, and provide an increased understanding of the tasks police officers face in their daily work. Topics covered include crime scene investigation, high-risk vehicle stops, traffic enforcement, DUI investigation, SWAT, police communications center, hiring process and training, use of force, and much more.
The Academy meets once a week for 13 weeks. Each weekly block provides participants information presented by Lafayette police officers and includes hands-on and interactive opportunities.
If you have ever wondered why police do what they do to keep you safe, apply to attend the 2023 spring academy. Applications and background checks are required. Seating is limited, so apply early! Upon successful completion of the academy, students will be honored at a graduation ceremony!
