City of Lafayette Police officers are trained to de-escalate all situations whenever possible, but in the event officers are required to use force to safely and effectively resolve a situation, the following definitions would apply:
Bodily Force: A weaponless maneuver.
Intermediate Tools: Use of an OPN, ASP, baton, pepper ball, less lethal weapon with impact munitions, canine, taser, OC.
Lethal Force: Force reasonably anticipated and intended to create a substantial likelihood of causing death or very serious injury.
Firearm Used: Any discharge of an officer's weapon directed toward any person.
