Looking for a positive and meaningful way to become involved in the community? Why not volunteer your time on either the Planning Commission or the Zoning Board of Adjustment. Both of these boards have openings due to term expirations. Apply by June 18!
Planning Commission meets on the fourth Tuesday and following Wednesday of each month at 7 pm. Members serve four-year terms. The Commission makes recommendations to the City Council on land use issues such as rezoning, subdivisions, planned unit developments, and site plan/architectural plan reviews. The Commission also makes decisions on special use reviews. Two members of the Commission also serve as liaisons to the Lafayette Open Space Advisory Committee and Historic Preservation Boards. Zoning Board of Adjustment meets as needed on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm. Members serve three-year terms. The Board is appointed by City Council to hear and decide variances or appeals for special exceptions to provisions of the Lafayette Development and Zoning Code. Additional Requirements: Interested citizens for these two boards must be registered voters, must have resided in Lafayette for one (1) full year and must submit a resume. Planning Commission applicants must also fill out the Planning Commissioner Application form. Applications are available below and at the Community Development Department at City Hall, 1290 S. Public Road.
