The City of Lafayette now has an opportunity to design safer, healthier and more accessible ways for members of the community to travel around town by bike or on foot. Kaiser Permanente Colorado recently awarded the city a $94,650 grant as part of the nonprofit health plan’s Walk and Wheel grant program. The program was designed to engage Colorado communities in the creation of safe environments that foster access to a variety of healthy ways to commute.

With this grant, the City of Lafayette seeks to engage the community to identify needs, barriers and opportunities to enhance pedestrian and bike routes in the area. The grant will also help establish baseline metrics for bike and pedestrian traffic and support the creation and promotion of an active transportation map and way-finding signage to encourage use of the routes.

“This grant provides the opportunity for Lafayette to set the stage to take a look at our existing infrastructure and make positive, beneficial impacts for residents to better access our community on bike or foot,” said Monte Stevenson, Director of Parks, Open Space and Golf.
