The summer is upon us, which means residents will be out walking their dogs and enjoying the great outdoors in Lafayette. As a friendly reminder, the City of Lafayette’s running at large prohibited ordinance (section 25-61) mandates that dogs must be under physical control (on leash or in a pet carrier) at all times when off of their owner’s property.
The only public area where dogs are allowed to be off-leash within the City of Lafayette is at the Great Bark Dog Park located at 597 N 119th St. All other parks and open space areas in Lafayette are strictly leash-only areas.
Electronic collars are not recognized as appropriate control measures. The City of Boulder’s Voice and Sight Tags (“green tags”) are not recognized by the City of Lafayette and are only valid for use in specific City of Boulder open space areas.
The fine for a first offense dog at large ticket is $140 plus additional impoundment fees. We are asking citizens’ assistance to educate yourself and your neighbors on this regulation.
If you see a violation of this ordinance, you are encouraged to contact the Lafayette Police Department at 303-441-4444.
