[ARCHIVED] Art Show Opening and Poetry Reading on Sept 5

The “Art on the Street: See & Respond!” Meet the Artists and Poets Reception will be held at the Lafayette Public Library September 5, 6:00 – 9 pm. Tickets cost $10 for adults; $5 for Teens, and free for children under 12. The evening includes the opportunity to visit with participating sculptors, artists and poets, a poetry reading, art show opening, and the presentation of the People’s Choice Award for Art on the Street, and the winners of the See & Respond! art and poetry competition.. Ticket price includes appetizers, desserts, and one beverage. Additional beer and wine are available for purchase. Tickets available at the door or at http://aotsreception.eventbrite.com

The reception recognizes the Art on the Street sculptors and their work, along with the poets and artists who created works inspired by this years installations.

The event is hosted by Lafayette Cultural Resources, Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission, the Public Art Committee and ARTS!Lafayette. The reception is a culminating event that expands the Art on the Street Program to include other arts and artists. Poets and 2-D artists of all kinds were invited to See & Respond to the 2014 Lafayette Colorado Art on the Street by writing poems or creating 2-D works of art in any medium that are inspired by any of the 2014 sculpture collection.

Cash prizes will be awarded for poetry and 2-D work in multiple age categories: Adult (19 and older) $150; Teen (13 – 18) $100; Children (6 – 12) $50. Poetry and 2-D art were judged by a team of professional poets and artists. The Art on the Street, Jean Mellblom People’s Choice Award of $1000 will be announced. Voting for the Jean Mellblom Award is still available at various locations in Lafayette: Cannon Mine Coffee, Mojo Coffee, Eats & Sweets and pARTiculars Gallery.
