ARTS!Lafayette and the Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission are proud to announce a call for entries to the 2015 Michael Adams Poetry Prize. March 22 is the deadline for entry of youth and adult poems. Named in honor of the poet Michael Adams, the Michael Adams Poetry Prize aims to cultivate and inspire poetry while celebrating Lafayette’s commitment to community arts.
The contest will be open to all Colorado adult poets as well as youth living in or attending school in Lafayette. There are three categories for adults, general and two themed categories, “Social Justice” and “The Natural World.” All carry cash prizes. The youth entries will be divided into three age categories, elementary, middle and high school. Cash prizes will be awarded at each level. All styles, themes and lengths are welcome. The 2015 judge is Martin Balgach.
Winning poets of three adult categories and three youth levels will be invited to read at a public event at The Church of the Arts located in Lafayette, Colorado on April 18, 2015. The Youth Category reading starts at 5:00 p.m. At 6:00 p.m. there will be a reception for all participants and attendees. The Adult Category reading will be from 7:00 – 8:30.

Michael Adams was a founding board member of ARTS!Lafayette and longtime member and chair of Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission as well as a talented poet. Mike was a talented poet as well as a dedicated leader in the arts in Lafayette. He had a passion for poetry, the arts and community. He was an intelligent, thoughtful and guiding force for many. He had a huge heart and was a stellar volunteer. He lost his life to cancer in September 2013; this contest is named in his honor.
