[ARCHIVED] Open burning and firework restrictions in Lafayette

Lafayette Fire Dept

The Lafayette Fire Department has issued restrictions on open burning within City limits. Very dry conditions and high temperatures have created significant fire danger throughout the state.

ALLOWED: Charcoal and liquid fuel grills on private property.

BANNED: The use of fireworks is prohibited in ALL instances. Open burning, blasting, model rockets, welding, or other activities which generate flame or flammable material is prohibited in all areas.

The Lafayette Police Department will be strictly enforcing this law. No warnings will be issued. Officers will confiscate all illegal fireworks and cite those in possession or caught using the illegal fireworks. All fireworks are considered illegal including sparklers and smoke bombs. Violators could face charges which carry a possible fine up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail.

The City of Lafayette’s 4th of July Event will take place as planned at Waneka Lake Park from 4-9pm on Wednesday, July 4th, however, the public firework show has been cancelled due to the extreme fire danger.

For information regarding restrictions in unincorporated Boulder County, refer to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Department

Violations can be reported to Boulder County Dispatch: 303-441-4444.
