The “Art on the Street: See & Respond!” Meet the Artists and Poets Reception will be held at the Lafayette Public Library June 5, 6:00 – 9 pm. Tickets cost $10 for adults; $5 for Teens, and free for children under 12. The evening includes the opportunity to visit with participating sculptors, artists and poets, a poetry reading, art show opening, and the presentation of the People’s Choice Award for Art on the Street, and the winners of the See & Respond! art and poetry competition. Ticket price includes appetizers, desserts, and one beverage. Additional beer and wine are available for purchase. Tickets available at the door.

The reception recognizes the Art on the Street sculptors and their work, along with the poets and artists who created works inspired by this year’s installations as part of the See & Respond Art and Poetry Contest.

The event is hosted by Lafayette Cultural Resources, Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission, the Public Art Committee and ARTS!Lafayette. The reception is a culminating event that expands the Art on the Street Program to include other arts and artists. Poets and 2-D artists of all kinds were invited to See & Respond to the 2015 Lafayette Colorado Art on the Street by writing poems or creating 2-D works of art in any medium that are inspired by any of the 2015 sculpture collection.

Cash prizes will be awarded for poetry and 2-D work in multiple age categories: Adult (19 and older) $150; Teen (13 – 18) $100; Children (6 – 12) $50. Poetry and 2-D art were judged by a team of professional poets and artists. Honorable Mention will also be awarded in each category.

Sixteen Art on the Street sculptures were installed along Public Road in March and April and includes sculptures by Victoria Ross Patti, Dale Montagne, Gary Monaco, Jim Choate, Maureen Hearty, Kimmerjae Johnson, J Morely, Scott Mohr, Diane Mason, Mary Zimmerman, Bill Vielehr, Kristie Letter, Patty Kelly, Reven Swanson, Jade Windell, and Jimmy Descant. Join us for the reception to find out this year’s winner of the Jean Mellblom People’s Choice Award and enjoy an evening of arts, poetry, music and friends.
