[ARCHIVED] Mayor Berg named 2015 “Outstanding Elected Official”

Mayor Berg recycling award

Lafayette Mayor Christine Berg has been named the Colorado Association for Recycling’s 2015 Outstanding Elected Official for her contributions and promotion of recycling and waste reduction.

“It is an honor on behalf of the City of Lafayette to receive the "Outstanding Elected Official" award,” commented Mayor Christine Berg upon notification of the award. “Many thanks to Public Works Director Doug Short and his staff. Every year Americans throw away 22 million tons of food, which for the typical American household is up to 25% of the food we buy each time we go to the grocery store,” the Mayor added. “Composting will increase awareness around the sheer amount of food that we waste every day, and will encourage all of us to take a good look at our refrigerator and how we manage food from our shopping carts to the composting bin.”

Mayor Berg will be honored at the Annual Recycling Awards on June 8 in Vail where she will also participate in the presentation of a workshop entitled, Moving Mountains – How to Increase Public Participation in Recycling.
