Teachers of Lafayette schools may apply for a grant to support arts-related projects with local students. The Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission (LCAC) is proud to offer Arts in Education Grants to local schools and teachers for the 9th year in a row. The deadline for application is September 28, 2015. Through an allocation from the city, last school year Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission awarded $6800 to 15 different projects in 7 Lafayette public schools. These are small grants of $500, or less, to supplement art supplies, allow for new art projects, exposure to artists, and much more. Those projects served more than 3,500 students from kindergarten through high school
Last year’s projects included a mural of students’ cultures, a puppet show taught lessons about the environment, art created from recycled materials using technology and Spanish speaking high school students mentored elementary students using Lafayette’s Art on the Street sculptures.
Teachers may submit an online grant application at the City of Lafayette website; www.cityoflafayette.com/grants. Grant applications are due September 28. Regular school year projects should be completed by May 22, 2016. Summer school projects must be completed by July 29, 2016.
