[ARCHIVED] Dog Attack

DOW

A report has been received of a dog attacked in the 100 block of Beacon Hill Drive on Tuesday, October 6. Beacon Hill Drive is located near 111th between Baseline and Arapahoe. The dog is described as a 40-50 pound Bulldog and was attacked inside of it's own backyard. It is suspected a large predator attacked this dog. The dog did not survive the attack. Incident is under investigation and Department of Wildlife has been notified.

UPDATE 10/9/15: Through the investigation and citizen input, we believe the predator involved in this attack may be a mountain lion. Citizen reports hearing what they believed to be the sounds of a mountain lion near Arapahoe Ridge Friday morning around 5AM. Arapahoe Ridge is a neighborhood in Erie at Arapahoe and 111th. Wounds on dog also appear to be consistent with mountain lion.

Please report hearing or siting any large wildlife in area, 303-441-4444.

The police department has not received any reports of human conflicts with wildlife in the area. Visit Colorado Division of Wildlife's website however for information about co-living with wildlife. This is a great resource for what you should know and do in the event you encounter wildlife.
