[ARCHIVED] Drug Take Back Effort Was Big Success

The Denver Field Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has released information about the amount of drugs collected from the Drug Take Back event in September. Thousands of Americans in communities across the country discarded more than 350 tons of unused, expired or unwanted drugs at the event on 9/26. The Denver Field Division, which is responsible for the States of Colorado, Wyoming & Montana, reports 217 collection sites in this region collected 28,503 pounds. The Lafayette site collected 586 pounds.

"The numbers of accidental overdoses each year from prescription drugs is truly shocking," said Special Agent in Charge Barbra Roach of DEA's Denver Field Division. "This take-back program makes a real difference in our communities by allowing people a simple and easy way to get rid of unwanted or unused drugs."
