[ARCHIVED] Volunteer Opportunity - Waneka Lake habitat improvement project

City of Lafayette Parks, Open Space & Golf department is hosting a volunteer event at Waneka Lake on Saturday, Nov. 7th from 9am-12pm. The purpose of this event is to create wildlife habitat on the lake bed while the lake is drained.

Volunteers will help construct spawning beds, artificial reef habitat and floating log beds for turtles and roosting birds. Work will involve physical activity such as moving pea gravel with wheel barrows, placing timber, laying fabric and other duties as assigned by staff. These man-made habitats are direct recommendations from Colorado Parks & Wildlife to improve upon the natural habitat which already exists at Waneka Lake.

We ask that volunteers bring wheel barrows and shovels. Staff will provide other materials necessary for the project. Please arrive at Waneka Lake west parking lot. Please use the registration link found on this page to register. For any questions and concerns, please call the Parks, Open Space & Golf Dept at 303-661-1306.
