[ARCHIVED] Coyotes in Rothman Open Space

A male and female coyote were sighted again in Rothman Open Space this morning, 1/14/16. It is likely the coyotes have a den in the area. Rothman Open Space is just east of Lucerne and Glenwood Drives.

On 12/31/2015, Lafayette Police Department Animal Control first received two complaints of aggressive coyotes in the area of Glenwood Drive and Lucerne Drive as well as the east part of the Rothman Open Space (near Josephine Commons). Animal control did an extra patrol on the paths of the Rothman Open Space and at approximately 1:40pm did spot what appeared to be a female coyote "patrolling" along the ditch in the northeast corner of the open space. The coyote may be getting her den territory ready to have her pups in early spring, possibly displaying aggressive behavior towards dog walkers. Gestation is normally 63 days so she may be in this area for quite some time. Please remember to keep dogs on a leash at all times, be aware of your surroundings, and do not turn your back to the coyote at any time. Please visit Colorado's Parks & Wildlife website for more information on living with coyotes.
