Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission are proud to announce the winners of the 2017 Lafayette Youth Poetry Prize at a reading and reception at The Collective Community Arts Center located at 201 N. Public Road at 2pm on April 29, 2017.
The finalists at all youth levels will be invited to read at a public event. The finalists will be reading their outstanding poems during the reception. The Lafayette Youth Poetry Prize (LYPP) aims to cultivate and inspire poetry while celebrating Lafayette’s commitment to community arts. $340 will be given out in prize money.
The Lafayette Youth Poetry Prize is open to youth (K – 8th grade) living in or attending school in Lafayette. The youth entries will be divided into three age categories, with a Spanish Language and English division at each age level. Cash prizes will be awarded at each level. High school students and adults are welcome to enter the Michael Adams Poetry Prize later this year.

Michael Adams was a longtime member and chair of Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission, founding board member of ARTS!Lafayette, as well as a talented poet. Mike was a talented poet as well as a dedicated leader in the arts in Lafayette. He had a passion for poetry, the arts and community. He was an intelligent, thoughtful and guiding force for many. He had a huge heart and was a stellar volunteer. He lost his life to cancer in September 2013; this contest is held in his honor.
