[ARCHIVED] Lafayette Youth Advisory Committee honored as a 2017 Healthy Community Awards Recipient

LYAC

On April 4, the Lafayette Youth Advisory Committee (LYAC) will be honored as a 2017 Healthy Community Award recipient by the Boulder County Public Health Department (BCPH). The committee is being honored for their engagement in a variety of activities supporting substance use prevention as well as outreach, education, and policy related to the harms of sugar-sweetened beverage consumption. According to BCPH, LYAC exemplifies the principles of positive youth development, equity and inclusion, and community and civic engagement.

LYAC has partnered with Boulder County's Healthy Youth Alliance for several years to generate awareness about teen substance abuse. The Committee has also co-sponsored social activities, participated in Project Sticker Shock with Lafayette liquor stores, and served as panelists during two Boulder County Town Halls. Members were specifically tasked with helping parents and adult mentors initiate conversations with their children/youth about teen substance abuse. In January 2016, LYAC partnered with BCPH to support its multi-year, healthy beverage initiative and launched BoCo for H20, a local campaign to promote water consumption (over sugary alternatives).

The community is invited to participate in the awards ceremony;
