[ARCHIVED] Trash service phone scam reported

Please be advised of a Trash Service Phone Scam encountered by a Lafayette resident on June 26. This resident received a cell phone call from a man identifying himself as “Palmer” from Waste Management. Palmer indicated there is a new requirement for residents to keep a list of all items placed in recycle carts and failure to comply would result in a $77 per month fee. Palmer then demanded a credit card number to charge in the event of a violation. Palmer called the resident back a second time and became more aggressive, demanding an immediate credit payment over the phone.

If you are unsure about a call or email that claims to be from your bank, utility company, etc., call the business directly using the number on your bill.
