Public Works will be street sweeping in Old Town neighborhoods the week of May 21-25, 2018.
Please watch for "No Parking" signs on your block.
You may have seen street sweepers making their rounds through neighborhoods in Lafayette, but you may not be aware of the positive environmental impact of this important City service. Street cleaning improves the aesthetics of neighborhoods by removing dirt and debris from roads. This process also creates a safer and more desirable travel corridor for pedestrians and bicyclists.
While these factors are important, street sweeping’s most critical role is to decrease urban stormwater pollution by reducing pollutants entering urban waterways. Street sweeping also minimizes the amount of particulate matter that can cause respiratory health concerns.
Lafayette residents are asked to please observe the posted no parking signs during street sweeping operations - in order to avoid fines *and* towed vehicles. Parked cars obstruct the sweepers from cleaning the entire street area. Large objects such as basketball goals and trash cans should also be removed.
Your cooperation during street sweeping efforts will allow Lafayette Public Works crews to provide the best and most efficient service possible for your neighborhood. Thank you in advance for your help as we decrease stormwater pollution and keep your streets clean.
