On May 29, 2018 at approximately 0732 hours the Lafayette Police Department was dispatched to Centaurus High School located at 10300 West South Boulder Road in Lafayette. Upon arrival at the school, staff notified officers that a suspicious item was found in the school by a construction worker doing work.
After evaluating the situation, the Boulder County Bomb Squad was dispatched to assist in removing the item. The item was removed from the school and analyzed by the bomb squad. It was determined the item was an imitation explosive device and that the item was positively not real.
We are not releasing any details on the item found or the location it was found at this time for investigative purposes.
The last day of school for Centaurus High School students was May 28. The school building was open today for faculty, staff and construction workers only.
There is no further information at this time as this case is still under investigation.
