Lafayette Announces 2018 Green Business Recognition Program
Applications accepted through December 31, 2018
The City of Lafayette’s Energy Sustainability Advisory Committee (LESAC) and Waste Reduction Advisory Committee (WRAC) announce the launch of the eighth annual Green Business Recognition Program.
To be considered for this recognition, local businesses and commercial property owners report practices and measures taken to improve energy efficiency, reduce landfill waste, conserve water, and support alternative transportation through an online questionnaire. Each application is reviewed and awards are issued for bronze, silver, and gold level achievement. In the 2017 program, 30 Lafayette businesses received Green Business awards.
With leadership and support from Boulder County’s Partners for a Clean Environment (PACE), the Green Business Program connects business and commercial property owners with tools and resources to save money and support the city’s goals for reduction of waste and greenhouse gas emissions. At no cost to the applicant, PACE advisors visit each business in-person to identify opportunities for improvement and advise on money-saving programs and rebates.
Green Business awardees are recognized annually by the Lafayette City Council and receive certificates and decals to display at their location. Businesses are featured on the city’s website and receive access to workshops, networking events, tours, and other opportunities available only to the Green Business community. Awardees and their employees are also eligible for discounted RTD products, including EcoPass and pre-paid MyRide cards.
As the City of Lafayette pursues goals of 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and 80% reduction of GHG emission by 2050, as stated in a resolution passed in 2017, the Lafayette Green Business Program is an important component to lowering energy consumption in the building sector.
The 2018 application is now available online at cityoflafayette.com/GreenBusiness. While applications will be accepted through the end of 2018, applicants are encouraged to complete the online questionnaire before October 31 in order to be included in an upcoming Hometown Weekly print advertisement. Returning 2017 Green Businesses are simply required to review and update their 2017 questionnaires to receive recognition again in 2018.
The Green Business Program is a collaboration between the City of Lafayette, the Lafayette Energy Sustainable Advisory Committee (LESAC), Boulder County’s Partners for a Clean Environment (PACE), Xcel Energy’s Partners in Energy, and the Lafayette Waste Reduction Advisory Committee (WRAC).
