Lafayette staff wishes to collect resident input on the potential extension of Route 228 described below. Please access a short survey and share your opinion.
RTD Route 228 was modified in January of 2019 to terminate at Boulder County Housing Authority’s (BCHA) Kestrel affordable housing development in the City of Louisville (1130 S Kestrel Ln.). The route runs north on SH 42 (95th St.), turns west onto Paschal Drive, and loops around Hecla Drive before turning back to the south. This created an important extension, as it serves the new Kestrel affordable housing development residents who hold Eco-Passes.
Because of recent route changes, RTD now has the opportunity to extend this service into Lafayette. The extension would run north on SH 42 to the intersection of SH 7/Arapahoe Road. Instead of traveling through Kestrel on Hecla Dr., the proposed alternative has stops for Kestrel on SH 42 and continues north with stops along N. 95th St north of Baseline Road and then loops through Forest Park Circle, east of Arapahoe/95th St. This new route would allow for connections to Route 225 (LD25 - along Baseline Rd.) and the Jump (which uses Arapahoe Rd.). The City of Louisville and Boulder County are currently exploring the impacts of this route change on the residents of the BCHA Kestrel neighborhood.
