With recent colder weather, ice has formed on many of the open waterways, lakes, and ponds around the City. While ice can seem solid, most of our bodies of water in the City retain a very thin layer of ice throughout the season. This means you or your pets should never walk on ice in our City - Assume all ice is unsafe.
If you see others on ice or if a pet or person go through the ice, call 911 immediately. Do not attempt to rescue the person or pet as it may result in multiple victims. The Lafayette Fire Department trains annually, carries the proper rescue equipment, and has a rapid response within City limits.
Just remember – Stay off the ice!
