The Lafayette Historic Preservation Board is offering competitive grants of up to $2,000 for a building improvement project on older buildings in Lafayette. Deadline to apply for the Building Improvement Grant is May 14, 2021.
To be eligible, buildings must be at least 50 years old and within Lafayette city limits, and improvement projects must meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Help extend the life of the building
- Keep historic materials to the extent possible, and if not, use identical or similar materials
- Remove non-historic features or materials to expose historic ones
Projects can be structural or cosmetic. Commercial buildings, houses, churches, and outbuildings are eligible. Examples include, but are not limited to, foundation repair, window or door repair, weather sealing, painting, chimney repair, gutters, roof repair/replacements, reconstruction of historical architectural features, restoration using historical materials. All required building permits must be obtained.
