Lafayette Map_563x375

Construction Update

Starting as early as May 10, construction crews will begin trenching. This involves digging a trench and placing the natural gas line in the trench. Work will be Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm with rolling lane closures and is weather dependent.

Xcel Energy will replace approximately 0.5 miles of natural gas line along S. Public Road from just north of S. Boulder Road to the alley between Emma and Chester streets for the Lafayette Natural Gas Project.

See a map of the area by viewing this link. This project will allow Xcel Energy to continue to provide safe and reliable natural gas service. View the most recent construction updates on the Xcel project website: xcelenergynaturalgasprojects.com/lafayette.

General Construction Information

Construction activities began April 12, 2021 and will end in fall 2021. Please note that construction schedules are subject to change. Xcel Energy will install the natural gas line by open trenching which involves digging a trench and placing the natural gas line in the trench.

During construction, you may notice:

  • Marking of utility lines and “potholing” to verify their locations.
  • Partial or complete road and sidewalk closures.
  • Traffic control measures.
  • Street parking restrictions.
  • Potential changes to access.
  • Elevated levels of noise.

Xcel Energy will work to reduce construction-related inconveniences. Please note that there will continue to be ample parking around S. Public Road. Xcel Energy will temporarily restore work areas directly after natural gas line installation and will return to complete final restoration when conditions allow.

Safety

Xcel Energy takes a proactive approach to public safety by implementing safety measures before, during, and after construction. If you ever suspect a natural gas leak, leave your home or business immediately. Once you are safely outside, call 911, then Xcel Energy at 800-895-2999.
