As a printmaker, painter, sculptor, jeweler, and storyteller, Melanie Yazzie’s work draws upon her rich Diné (Navajo) cultural heritage. Melanie is chair of printmaking at University of Colorado, Boulder. Her work is on exhibit at The Collective Community Arts Center through June 27. Melanie will share her stories from the Starkey Building porch on Sunday, May 23, 3-4:30 PM at Festival Plaza. There is plenty of room to spread out on the lawn. Please bring your own chairs and/or blankets for seating.
"I believe we’ve all been trying to find our center in home this year," says Melanie Yazzie. "At times it feels like we are trapped but it other times we are cocooning and healing memories and thoughts from within. That’s what I have been doing. I feel like this past year has been a time of contemplation and inner growth. Often times filled with pain of losing people the pain of things that are happening in the world but being home and find center in home helps heal us."
