[ARCHIVED] Mosquito control application on June 24

Mosquito Control

Vector Disease Control International (VDCI) will be conducting a mosquito control application at:

Waneka Lake Park
Thursday, June 24
after 10pm

This will take place weather permitting. To report mosquito problems or concerns please call VDCI at 877-276-4306 or visit www.vdci.net/colorado

The City of Lafayette contracts with VDCI to conduct surveillance of adult mosquito populations and to provide limited adult mosquito control when pre-determined disease and annoyance thresholds have been surpassed.  The goal is to provide the greatest level of pest control and disease vector mosquito populations while maintaining a balanced use of cultural, biological, and least-toxic chemical procedures that are environmentally compatible and economically feasible.

Remember the 4Ds
1. Use DEET-enhanced insect repellent
2. DRESS in long sleeves and pants.
3. Avoid the outdoors from DUSK to DAWN
4. DRAIN standing water outside your home

There are also steps you can take to protect your property from mosquitos. Empty or clean out all water-holding containers in your yard (bird baths, tires, cans, rain barrels, wading pools) – 1 small can of water can hold as many as 10,000 mosquito larvae. Learn more tips from the Boulder County Health Department.
