[ARCHIVED] Mosquito control applications on July 22

Mosquito Control

Vector Disease Control International (VDCI) will be conducting mosquito control applications at:

Waneka Lake Park - Thursday, July 22 after 10pm
Rothman Open Space - Thursday, July 22 after 10pm

These will take place weather permitting. To report mosquito problems or concerns please call VDCI at 877-276-4306 or visit www.vdci.net/colorado

The City of Lafayette contracts with VDCI to conduct surveillance of adult mosquito populations and to provide limited adult mosquito control when pre-determined disease and annoyance thresholds have been surpassed.  The goal is to provide the greatest level of pest control and disease vector mosquito populations while maintaining a balanced use of cultural, biological, and least-toxic chemical procedures that are environmentally compatible and economically feasible.

Remember the 3Ds
1. DRAIN - Empty water containers at least once per week
2. DRESS - Wear long sleeves, long pants, and light-colored, loose-fitting clothing
3. DEFEND - Properly apply an approved repellent such as DEET, picaridin, IR 3535, or oil of lemon-eucalyptus

There are also steps you can take to protect your property from mosquitos. Empty or clean out all water-holding containers in your yard (bird baths, tires, cans, rain barrels, wading pools) – 1 small can of water can hold as many as 10,000 mosquito larvae.
