Starting this month, residents will see a change in their water bill with the City’s new water rate adjustments. The new tier approach provides more sustainable and equitable outcomes for Lafayette’s community.
Lafayette’s water supply is essential for our community, but climate change, our location in the arid West, securing water rights, water plant construction projects, and the cost to operate and maintain reliable water systems all place financial pressures on the City to provide this service to residents.
Some of the water rate adjustments include an increase of only 0.0001 cent per gallon in the lowest water rate tier, which typically covers an average household's indoor water use; multifamily housing accounts will see a small reduction in their fixed monthly service charge; and, the five percent storm water increase approved for 2022 was repealed to help lower impacts for all customers. Residents who tend to use high amounts of water for outdoor irrigation will have an opportunity to manage costs through thoughtful use and conservation efforts.
