Artist Statement
The phrase “inside out” takes me to my childhood, making sure my sweater was on correctly, and finding socks with the fuzzy side in. It is the idea that what is on the inside defines the outside. Negative space as an interior form that describes the whole. Materials that are visually soft surrounded by rigid structure. Interior structure that is both visible and defining.
Building Sculpture is a form of paying attention. A sculpture is an object in space that will be seen from all sides and angles. In building a sculpture, you must imagine how the piece will be perceived. The variable becomes the person looking, interacting, or walking away. I build simple forms, shapes that are interesting to me.
