My medium is scrap metal sculpting. Scrap metal because the story of each of these individual pieces is also my story. My story of overcoming circumstances, my story of redemption, my story of taking something that outlived its purpose and giving it a new chance at life. With each sculpture, each piece I produce, I promise that my heart and soul go along with it because my resolve as an artist is to always give it all I have!
My process for my large sculptures begins with a vision. I guess that is the gift that everyone seems to talk about, to be able to visualize something that doesn't exist. But I don't think that is the gift at all. The true challenge in work, in anything that is worth doing, is overcoming ourselves. Self-doubt, self-confidence, belief in our own abilities, allowing ourselves to make mistakes, and having the courage to do it all over again, mastering those qualities are the true nature of how I materialize the sculptures I create.
