Artist Statement
Candy Mama Cupcake was conceived in admiration and as a feminist response to the large-scale outdoor pop works of artists like Claes Oldenburg making it a great addition to Art on the Street 2022, it is not only its own piece of contemporary sculpture but also as a reference to art history. Situated in this way, this work can link to other works in the exhibition as a teaching tool of art history and feminist approach to changing and modifying art history. Colorful and bubbly, this piece can't help but to put a smile on viewers’ faces as they pass by!
*The name Candy Mama was created by using my niece’s name in an online cupcake name generator. To the next generation of feminists, may they be strong and fierce!
