Space Cat “Cosmo” by Anthony Guntren

Life size bronze sculpture of a seated cat wearing a helmet with antenna on top

Artist Statement

I, like many artists, tend to take my sculpture too seriously.  With this in mind Space Cat "Cosmo" came to life; a playful artwork that will hopefully give the viewer a smile, perhaps even a chuckle. If you turn on your computer, you will likely find some version of a “meme” on your social media feed. For me, this piece is like the mindset put forth in the late 60’s by artist Roy Lichtenstein when dealing with that era’s pop culture. Cast with the age-old material of bronze, a lighthearted cat in a seated position with a throwback vintage/imagined space helmet lands in a space near you.

I dedicated the last 15 years to both art as well as art education, works emerge from the interplay between artistic process, creative meditation, and human interaction. Big goals in this strange journey are to continue the pursuit of artistic discovery while creating meaningful sculpture that interacts with the transmission of human energy as people go about their daily lives.
