Water Conservation Programs 2023

sprinkler with water conservation programs: lawn removal, garden in a box, and slow the flow

The City of Lafayette delivers no-cost and affordable outdoor water conservation programs for your home through our partnership with local non-profit Resource Central. In 2023, we will offer three programs to residents: Lawn Removal, Garden in a Box, and Slow the Flow. Short descriptions of each program are outlined below.

Lawn Removal: Check out the Lawn Removal program for discounts when you remove a section of your lawn. It couldn’t be any easier. Simply plan your xeric project, choose your discounts, then apply. You will receive a phone consultation with Resource Central, and you will be ready to remove your lawn. Please note lawn removal is only available to those residents planning a low-water use yard.

Garden in a Box: Garden kits that are professionally designed for Front Range yards, easy to install, and can help you save around 7,300 gallons of water over the garden’s lifetime. Starting at $119, these kits are beautiful. Please visit resourcecentral.org/gardens to view this year’s selection. Be sure to apply on March 1 for spring gardens and on June 21 for fall gardens! Limited kits are available.

Slow the Flow: Sprinklers need occasional check-ups to ensure they are watering your lawn as efficiently as possible. Get your outdoor irrigation system checked with a free sprinkler evaluation by Resource Central. Sprinkler audits are now available for homeowner associations and commercial buildings. Sprinkler evaluations last about 75 minutes per household and could help you save thousands of gallons each year! To sign up, please visit resourcecentral/sprinkers to schedule.

Outdoor water efficiency rebates: Lawn removal and a transition to a water-wise garden is the best way to conserve water and save money on your water utility bill. However, water-efficient irrigation equipment is another option for residents to reduce their water usage. The Outdoor Water Efficiency Rebate Program offers homeowners within the City rebates on certain outdoor water-conserving products.

Waterwise yard seminars: Join Resource Central to learn all about waterwise landscaping, promoting pollinators, and conserving water. Upcoming topics include: Intro to Permaculture, Planting  for Pollinators, and Turf Removal. View the full lineup of over 20 Waterwise Yard Seminars on their website and register at: www.ResourceCentral.org/Seminars

These programs are designed and encouraged to be conducted together to maximize water savings.

Please note space is limited for each program – you must register to secure your participation
