The City of Lafayette’s Sustainability Department and the Fire and Parks Department have partnered to construct one of Colorado’s largest xeriscape demonstration gardens at Fire Station #1, located at 401 N. 111th St. The Fire Station is a unique opportunity for a demonstration garden because of its high visibility.
The garden showcases the latest techniques for designing lawns using Resource Central's Garden-in-a-Box, fireproofing practices, and educational information on how pollinator plants conserve local biodiversity.
All plants in the demonstration garden are fire resistant and the project serves as an excellent resource for understanding "firescaping" and water conservation in our region. Stay tuned for ongoing updates on the garden's progress as we work towards a more sustainable future.
