[ARCHIVED] Protect yourself from West Nile Virus

West Nile Virus has become a fact of life. What can you do? Protect yourself!

Remember the 4 Ds:
• Use DEET-enhanced insect repellent
• DRESS in long sleeves and pants
• Avoid the outdoors from DUSK to DAWN
• DRAIN standing water outside your home

Many people still believe that West Nile Virus is only dangerous for the very young or elderly. However, almost half of those suffering from debilitating illnesses caused by a mosquito bite in the last few years are between the ages of 21 to 50. One out of five people infected with WNV will suffer a debilitating illness that lasts anywhere from one week to three months or longer. WNV has become a fact of life for all of us here in Colorado. What can you do? Protect yourself! While WNV can strike even the healthiest individuals, with potentially devastating or even deadly effects, it can also be safely and easily avoided.

To report mosquito activity, opt-out from spraying at your residence or to request notification prior to spraying on your street, please contact Colorado Mosquito Control at (877) 276-4306 or visit http://www.comosquitocontrol.com/.
