Lafayette Republic Services customers are eligible for complimentary Christmas tree disposal as part of the City's Three Cart Program. Republic Services will conduct tree pick-ups during regular weekly residential compost service throughout January, February, and March, 2024. Watch for a postcard with these details.
To ensure proper disposal, Republic Services customers are advised to follow these guidelines:
- Cut trees into four-foot lengths and bundle with rope or twine - Ensure trees are un-flocked and completely undecorated, including ornaments and tinsel
- Place trees next to the compost cart during the regular weekly collection
Flocked trees require an additional material sticker available for purchase from City Hall, as they will be treated as garbage instead of compost.
Due to low quality mulch and contaminated materials, tree mulch pick-up rates have been declining over the past few years. Because of these conditions and the availability of the convenient Republic program, the tree drop-off program at the Lafayette Service Center will no longer be offered. The City and Republic will continue to provide quality compost and mulch giveaway events for Lafayette residents in the spring. Mark your calendars for April 13. More details will be available in early 2024
