1. What volunteer opportunities are available?

Volunteer opportunities are released as News Items on the Volunteer Home page.  They also appear on our Job Opportunities module with Government jobs.com or if you prefer, email the Volunteer Committee.

2. How does the City of Lafayette celebrate its volunteers?

Annually, the Lafayette Volunteer Committee hosts a poster contest. In recognition of all volunteers in the City of Lafayette, the Lafayette Volunteer Committee sponsors the poster contest with the winner to receiving a cash prize awarded at the September Art Night Out in Festival Plaza, Lafayette 311 S. Public Road. Traditionally, the City of Lafayette honored it’s volunteer’s by nominating a volunteer of the year and having a celebration during National Volunteer week. 

3. Does the City do background checks on its volunteers?

Yes, if a volunteer will have one-on-one, unsupervised contact when serving others they will be thoroughly background checked. Volunteers not having direct, unsupervised contact with individuals may not be required to have a background investigation. For more information, email the the Volunteer Committee.

4. Does the City “hire” interns?

The City of Lafayette occasionally offers unpaid internships for academic credit or professional experience. For more information, email the the Volunteer Committee.
